Angela Batista, Ed.D.
A native of the Dominican Republic, Angela grew up in Brooklyn, New York. A first-generation college student and professional, she is an experienced and successful educator and leader and the former Vice President of Student Affairs and Institutional Diversity and Inclusion at Champlain College. Angela has worked in K-12 and higher education institutions across the United States and held senior level positions at Oregon State University, the University of Southern Indiana and Mills College. She also worked at the University of Vermont and Lynn University, is a former Marriage and Family Therapist, and an experienced high school teacher, counselor and administrator.
Professional Overview
Angela is a Faculty Lecturer at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, where she teaches “Multiculturalism in Higher Education,” a graduate course within the College Student Personnel CSP) and Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Department. She founded Transformation by Design (TBD) in September 2020, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. TBD is an international executive coaching, speaking, and consulting firm providing expertise and customized resources and services to individuals, teams, and organizations in higher education and in the private and non-profit sectors.
Experience
Angela is a recognized passionate leader and International Coaching Federation (ICF) trained and certified executive and design coach, author, international speaker, facilitator and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) strategist. She has received multiple national awards, including being named as a Student Affairs Pillar of the Profession in 2020. She also served as the 2020-21 NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) Board Chair and is the lead editor of the 2018 publication, Latinx/a/os in Higher Education: Exploring Identity, Pathways, and Success.
International Experience
In addition to being an award-winning teacher and leader, Angela is recognized as an expert, both nationally and internationally, and has received multiple awards. She is actively engaged internationally and often speaks at international gatherings. She supported the development of the NASPA Latin American and Caribbean (NASPA LAC) area, encompassing 41 countries. She has also led DEI and organizational development projects, as well as delivered presentations and keynotes in various countries, including Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Hungary, Mexico, South Africa, The Gambia and the Netherlands.
Education
Angela earned her doctorate in Leadership from Nova Southeastern University and her master’s degree from the University of Vermont. Her undergraduate work was completed at Brooklyn College in New York City. Additionally, Angela earned Coaching Certification from the Academy of Creative Coaching (ICF accredited), an International Certificate in Gestalt Leadership and Organization Change (iGold), Appreciative Inquiry Certification, from The David L.
